tramadol allergy codeine

How long before I can expect my allergy codeine to clarify?

I recently had surgery and received codeine to help in recovery at home. The day I released, I realized that I was unusually stinging, but does not think much of it. When I woke up yesterday, my face was completely swollen, I had hives all over my body and my chest felt very tight. I called my doctor, who told me to stop taking codeine and take some antihistamines. They sent me to the emergency room later that night, because my greatest difficulty breathing. I gave more antihistamines at the hospital, and given a script for a new painkiller (Tramadol). I have taken codeine in more than 48 hours at this point, but still I have hives, wheezing and I started again. Can anyone tell me about how much I can expect to wait long before these symptoms disappear? I've never had a severe reaction to anything (and I have some nut allergies). Any advice It would be appreciated.

It may take several days for your symptoms disappear. You must take antihistamines in the meantime. If you still have symptoms they can go back to your doctor for stronger medications (such as corticosteroids). In future it may be a good idea to have about Epi-Pen. It is a prescription item and is used in emergency situations induced allergy (shortness of breath or loss of consciousness).
